Gagauz Kilimneri in Gaidar
Gagauz Kilimneri, the Gagauz Carpet Festival, is held annually in the village of Gaidar within Moldova's Gagauzia autonomous region. Home to a local carpet-weaving museum supported by the Soros Foundation, the village hosts master weavers who exhibit and sell handmade carpets reflecting regional patterns, reviving traditional techniques and promoting the cultural heritage of the Gagauz community in southern Moldova.
Gagauz Kilimneri centers on a craft that might otherwise fade without dedicated public attention: the carpet-weaving tradition of Moldova's Gagauz community, a Turkic-speaking, Orthodox Christian minority concentrated in the country's south.
