The story

Bal de la Rose Monaco in Monte Carlo

The Bal de la Rose, or Rose Ball, is a charity gala founded in 1954 by Princess Grace Kelly, held each March at the Salle des Etoiles within the Monte-Carlo Sporting complex. It has benefited the Princess Grace Foundation since 1964 and is known for lavish floral decor using around 25,000 roses, a themed dinner-dance, and hosts Prince Albert II and Princess Caroline.

In 1954, a young Princess Grace Kelly created a ball meant to celebrate a single flower on a scale grand enough to fill a ballroom.

Few galas anywhere carry the same weight of royal history as the Bal de la Rose

03

The city starts moving

Its signature is scale applied to a single flower: roughly 25,000 roses transform the hall each year into a themed floral environment built specifically for the evening

04

The water draws everyone in

Guests take part in a formal dinner-dance under a changing yearly theme, with proceeds benefiting the Princess Grace Foundation, a cause supported since 1964

05

The old stones answer

Prince Albert II and Princess Caroline preside as hosts, tying the event directly to the ruling family rather than a detached charity board
