Reindeer Festival in Khuvsgul/Tsaatan communities

The Tsaatan Reindeer Festival is an annual July 6-7 festival held near Lake Khuvsgul celebrating the living traditions of the Dukha, or Tsaatan, one of Mongolia's smallest ethnic groups at roughly 200 to 300 people, who maintain a reindeer-herding lifestyle in the country's far north near the Tuva border. Now in its 16th-plus year, the festival features reindeer racing and riding, shaman rituals, folk music and storytelling.

Each July 6 and 7, near the shores of Lake Khuvsgul in Mongolia's far north, one of the world's smallest reindeer-herding communities holds a festival built around its own survival.
