Nauryz is the Kazakh spring-equinox New Year festival, celebrated March 21-22 by ethnic Kazakhs, who make up 76.3 percent of Bayan-Olgii Province's population. Suppressed from 1937 until festivities resumed in 1990, Nauryz today features shared meals of Nauryz Kozhe, games, horse riding, music and dance, with Olgii hosting a Pre-Nauryz Festival since 2022.

For more than half a century, Nauryz went largely unmarked in Mongolia's Bayan-Olgii Province.
