Fasinada in Perast
Fasinada is a five-hundred-year-old maritime tradition held every July 22 in Perast, in which local boats carry stones out to reinforce the artificial islet of Our Lady of the Rocks. Recognized as UNESCO-adjacent intangible cultural heritage since 2013, the ceremony now includes a modern Fasinada Cup regatta alongside the traditional stone-laying ritual, blending centuries-old practice with contemporary sailing competition.
Fasinada stands among the most historically continuous maritime traditions on the Montenegrin coast, a ritual understood to date back five hundred years and still performed every July 22 in the small Boka Bay town of Perast.
