Casablanca International Biennale of Contemporary Art in Casablanca

Since Moroccan artist and publisher Mostapha Romli launched it in 2012, the Casablanca International Biennale of Contemporary Art has worked to build public art infrastructure that Morocco largely lacks, curating exhibitions that pair Moroccan, African, and international practitioners. Rooted in the IFITRY artists residency near Essaouira, the biennale returns for its 6th edition June 4-30, 2026, themed Birthing the Impossible and curated by Marisa Caichiolo.

Contemporary art in Morocco has long lacked the museum and gallery infrastructure that cities of comparable size elsewhere take for granted, and it was that gap Mostapha Romli set out to address when he initiated the Casablanca International Biennale of Contemporary Art in 2012.
