Fes Festival of Sufi Culture in Fes
The Fes Festival of Sufi Culture and World Spiritualities is an annual gathering in Fes, Morocco, dedicated to Sufism, the mystical branch of Islam for which the city has long been a spiritual center. Founded in 2007 under royal patronage, it draws roughly two hundred artists, researchers and musicians from countries including Senegal, Turkey, Spain and India for performances, workshops and scholarly discussion.
The Fes Festival of Sufi Culture and World Spiritualities was founded in 2007 to give formal shape to something Fes had embodied for centuries: a living center of Sufism, the mystical current within Islam that emphasizes direct spiritual experience, inward devotion and the guidance of teachers within a chain of transmission stretching back generations.
