Awaln'art Street Arts Festival in Marrakech
Awaln'art was a street arts festival in Marrakech founded in 2007 by a collective of Franco-Moroccan artists, focused on bringing contemporary public-space art into the city's medina and Jemaa el-Fnaa square. It was backed by the Municipality of Marrakech, Morocco's Ministry of Culture, the International Organization of La Francophonie, and French cultural institutions, with a stated aim of rethinking art's place in urban life.
Awaln'art started in 2007 when a collective of Franco-Moroccan artists set out to bring contemporary public-space art into Marrakech's medina, an environment already dense with its own visual and social life.
