Marrakech International Film Festival in Marrakech

Created in 2001 by King Mohammed VI, the Marrakech International Film Festival has grown into one of the most prestigious film gatherings in the Middle East and Africa. The 2026 edition, its 23rd, runs November 20-28 with 82 films from 31 countries, presided over by Oscar-winning director Bong Joon-ho, and blends a competitive showcase for emerging talent with star-studded galas and career tributes.

When King Mohammed VI established the Marrakech International Film Festival in 2001, Morocco already had a long relationship with cinema as a location, its deserts and cities having stood in for countless foreign productions.
