Halesi Festival in Halesi
The Halesi Festival centers on the Halesi-Maratika Caves in Khotang District, a remote hillside site revered by Hindus, Buddhists, and the Kirat community alike. Major religious fairs are held here across a sixteen-day mela beginning on Ram Nawami, with further gatherings on Shivaratri and Bala Chaturdashi each year.
In the hill country of Khotang District in eastern Nepal, a natural cave descending sixty-seven feet below the surface has drawn worshippers from three separate religious traditions for centuries, each with its own explanation for why the site is sacred.
