Ghode Jatra in Kathmandu
Ghode Jatra, the Horse Festival, is held at Tundikhel, Kathmandu's central parade ground, featuring horse races and displays by the Nepal Army. Rooted in a Newar legend about trapping a demon beneath the ground, it falls in March, close to the new moon of the month of Chaitra.
In the heart of Kathmandu lies Tundikhel, a long open expanse of grass that has served the city for generations as parade ground, gathering space, and, once a year, racetrack.
