Haritalika Teej in Kathmandu/Nationwide
Haritalika Teej is a three-day women's festival observed across Nepal in Bhadra, honoring Goddess Parvati's reunion with Shiva. Married women fast, often without water, dress in red and green, gather at Shiva temples such as Pashupatinath, and sing and dance together after a feast called dar.
Late in the monsoon month of Bhadra, temple courtyards across Nepal turn red and green as married and unmarried women gather for Haritalika Teej, a festival that asks its participants to fast, sing, and dance their way through devotion to Goddess Parvati.
