The story

Kathmandu International Mountain Film Festival in Kathmandu

The Kathmandu International Mountain Film Festival (KIMFF) is Nepal's leading mountain-themed film festival, screening documentaries and features about mountains, mountain cultures, and mountain environments from around the world. Held annually in Kathmandu around 11 December to coincide with International Mountain Day, it pairs cinema with workshops, discussion forums, and photography exhibitions.

The Kathmandu International Mountain Film Festival began in 2000 as a biennial, non-competitive event organized by the Himal Association, and it turned into an annual, competitive festival in 2007.

What is special

The part that makes it specific.

01

The place changes

Organized by the Himal Association and held around 11 December to coincide with International Mountain Day, KIMFF is described as the only festival of its kind east of Suez, bringing recent global films on mountaineering, mountain ecosystems, and highland cultures to Kathmandu

02

The mystery stays covered

It is a member of the International Alliance for Mountain Film alongside festivals such as Banff and Trento, and after the Kathmandu screenings a selection travels to other parts of Nepal as Travelling KIMFF
