Phulpati Dashain in Kathmandu/Nationwide
Phulpati falls on the seventh day of Dashain, when a sacred bundle of nine plants, the nawapatrika, is ceremonially carried, traditionally from Gorkha, to Kathmandu's old royal palace at Hanuman Dhoka. The name means flowers and leaves, and the day is marked nationally with a formal procession and gun salutes.
Seven days into Nepal's fifteen-day Dashain festival, the private household devotion that has built steadily since Ghatasthapana gives way, for one day, to a moment of formal public ceremony.
