Cinekid Festival in Amsterdam
Cinekid is the world's largest international film, television, and new media festival for children, held annually in Amsterdam each October. Founded in 1986, the festival screens youth-oriented films from around the world alongside a large interactive MediaLab featuring VR, AR, and games, and runs an industry-facing program, Cinekid for Professionals, connecting filmmakers with the children's media market.
Amsterdam's Westergasfabriek, a former gasworks converted into a cultural venue, has hosted Cinekid for years as the festival's main site, but the event's roots go back to 1986 and a much smaller ambition: introducing children to quality film beyond standard commercial fare.
