The story

Dutch Design Week in Eindhoven

Dutch Design Week transforms Eindhoven into the largest design event in Northern Europe each October, with more than 2,000 designers showing work across roughly 120 locations citywide. Founded in 2002, the nine-day event covers product, fashion, architecture and digital design through exhibitions, lectures and studio visits, drawing well over 300,000 visitors.

Dutch Design Week began in 2002 as a modest, non-commercial fair intended to give Dutch designers a platform outside the established gallery and trade-show circuit.

What is special

The part that makes it specific.

01

The place changes

Rather than concentrating in a single convention center, Dutch Design Week spreads across around 120 locations throughout Eindhoven, from converted industrial buildings and galleries to designers' own studios, giving visitors a citywide exhibition rather than a single trade-fair hall

02

The mystery stays covered

Its scale, more than 2,000 participating designers presenting new and experimental work, has made it the largest design event in Northern Europe, with an audience that mixes industry professionals, students and the general public rather than skewing purely toward trade visitors

03

The city starts moving

Eindhoven's own history as a former Philips manufacturing city gives the event a distinctive backdrop, much of the design and technology sector in the surrounding Brainport region grew directly out of that industrial legacy, so the festival doubles as a showcase for a regional design ecosystem, not just individual exhibitors
