Eindhoven Carnival in Eindhoven
Eindhoven's carnival turns the city into Lampegat, a nickname coined in the 1960s honoring the city's history as birthplace of the light bulb through Philips. The celebration features its own dialect greeting, salaai, instead of the alaaf used elsewhere, orange-blue-orange colors, and traditions including an annual mock Farmers' Wedding dating to 1972 and the D'n Vurtocht themed street parade.
Eindhoven is best known internationally as a technology city, home for more than a century to Philips and, more recently, to a cluster of design and engineering companies that have made it one of the Netherlands' most patent-dense regions per capita.
