Zwarte Cross in Lichtenvoorde

Zwarte Cross combines professional motocross racing with a large music festival on a 160-hectare site near Lichtenvoorde, in the Achterhoek region. Named after illegal motocross races held in the 1960s, it has grown into the largest paid festival in the Netherlands and, by area, the largest festival in the country, drawing more than 260,000 visitors in recent editions.

The name Zwarte Cross, literally black cross, refers to illegal motocross races that took place in the Achterhoek region of the eastern Netherlands during the 1960s, informal, unsanctioned events that left behind a local motorsport identity long before any organized festival existed.
