Tilburg Carnival in Tilburg
Tilburg's carnival transforms the city into Kruikenstad, a nickname rooted in the city's nineteenth-century textile industry. The season opens on November 11 with the announcement of a new Prince of Kruikenstad, while the main three-day celebration in February or March centers on a grand parade held on Carnival Sunday, with the city dressed in its traditional green and orange colors.
Tilburg's carnival nickname, Kruikenstad, or 'jug city,' comes wrapped in two different stories, and both point back to the same source: the wool and textile mills that dominated the city through the nineteenth century.
