The story

Tilburg Fair in Tilburg

Tilburgse Kermis takes over Tilburg's city center for ten days each July, closing streets to create a 4.5-kilometer fairground of rides, games and food stalls. It is the largest funfair in the Benelux region, drawing around 1.5 million visitors, and traces its roots to a market charter granted in 1407.

Tilburg's kermis has one of the longest documented histories of any fairground event in Europe, with its roots traced to a market charter granted in 1407.

What is special

The part that makes it specific.

01

The place changes

Few funfairs anywhere can claim over 600 years of continuous history, and Tilburg's city council considers the kermis significant enough to have nominated it for UNESCO intangible heritage recognition

02

The mystery stays covered

With more than 250 attractions, rides and stalls spread across the entire city center, including Europe's longest bumper car track, the fair is less a single attraction than a temporary reshaping of the whole city

03

The city starts moving

Dozens of traditional Dutch kermis games sit alongside modern thrill rides and a wide spread of fairground food, from Dutch classics to international street snacks
