Open Monument Day Netherlands in Various locations

Open Monumentendag is the Netherlands' national heritage weekend, held every second weekend of September since the first Dutch edition in 1987. Roughly four thousand historical buildings and sites across the country open free to the public, many with guided tours, exhibitions or musical performances. Coordinated nationally by Stichting Open Monumentendag, with local committees active in most Dutch municipalities, it draws around nine hundred thousand visitors a year.

Open Monumentendag began in 1987 as the Dutch edition of an idea that had first taken shape in France: a day when historic buildings not normally open to the public, or that charge admission, would unlock their doors for free.
