Auckland Writers Festival in Auckland

Founded in 1999 by writers Stephanie Johnson and the late Peter Wells, the Auckland Writers Festival is New Zealand's largest literary festival, bringing roughly 200 public events and authors from six continents to the Aotea Centre in the Auckland CBD each May for six days.

The Auckland Writers Festival was founded in 1999 by writers Stephanie Johnson and the late Peter Wells, who set out to build New Zealand's first major festival dedicated specifically to literature, at a time when the country had few dedicated platforms bringing international and local authors together for the public.
