Christchurch Pride in Christchurch
Christchurch Pride runs a week-long to month-long celebration each March, deliberately scheduled outside the international June Pride Month to secure better weather and avoid clashing with Auckland and Wellington Pride. Its modern era began in 2004, building on LGBTQ+ activism in the city dating to a 1974 Gay Pride Week, and 2026 marks forty years since the 1986 Homosexual Law Reform Act.
Christchurch's LGBTQ+ community held public celebrations and protests long before the city had a continuously run Pride festival.
