The Festival Internacional de Poesia de Granada, founded in 2005 by Nicaraguan poet Francisco de Asis Fernandez, gathers poets from dozens of countries in Granada's colonial streets each February. Readings fill plazas and courtyards, and the festival is known for the Kilometro de Poesia, a mass public poetry-writing event.

Granada, the oldest colonial city in the Americas still standing on its original site, has since 2005 hosted one of the largest gatherings of poets anywhere in the world each February, the Festival Internacional de Poesia de Granada.
