Festival Culturel de l'Arewa in Dogondoutchi
Festival Culturel de l'Arewa celebrates the Hausa cultural region of Arewa, straddling Dosso and Tahoua regions, from its historic capital Dogondoutchi. The second edition began January 11, 2025, themed around valorizing Arewa's cultural heritage for local tourism and regional identity, with programming including the Tarkama parade, a horse race, and tribute to Queen Saraounia Mangou, the Hausa-Azna warrior queen who resisted French colonial conquest.
Dogondoutchi, long recognized as the historic capital of Niger's Arewa cultural region, a Hausa area spanning parts of both Dosso and Tahoua regions, now hosts an annual celebration built to match that historical weight.
