RECI, the Rencontre Culturelle Internationale Sonay-Zarma-Dandi, is a new festival dedicated to Sonrai/Songhai-Zarma-Dendi languages and culture, including the joking-cousin tradition of parente a plaisanterie. The first edition ran August 7-10, 2025 in Niamey under presidential patronage, opening at the Mahatma Gandhi International Conference Center with delegations from 15 countries including France and Germany, aiming to revitalize heritage and strengthen Sahel peace and community bonds.

In August 2025, Niamey hosted the first edition of a festival built to give overdue institutional weight to three closely related language communities: the Sonrai, or Songhai, Zarma, and Dendi peoples of Niger and the wider Sahel.
