Ikeji Aru Chukwu Festival in Arochukwu

Ikeji is a four-day Igbo new yam and thanksgiving festival rooted in Aro ancestry, marked by elaborate masquerade parades, traditional music and communal feasting. While the festival's largest, best-documented modern celebration takes place in Arondizuogu, Imo State, the tradition traces back to the Aro people whose ancestral home is Arochukwu.

The Aro people trace their identity and considerable historical influence back to Arochukwu, home of the Ibinukpabi oracle and the base from which the Aro Confederacy built a trading and religious network that reached across much of southeastern Nigeria in the centuries before colonial rule.
