The story

Bauchi Durbar Festival in Bauchi

The Bauchi Durbar is an Eid-season equestrian and cultural festival of the historic Bauchi Emirate, in which mounted title-holders parade before the Emir through the old city streets, following the shared Hausa-Fulani Durbar tradition practiced across northern Nigeria's jihad-era emirates in present-day Bauchi State, northeastern Nigeria.

Bauchi Emirate traces its founding to the jihad led by Usman dan Fodio in the early nineteenth century, when the territory was organized under Fulani leadership as one of the emirates loyal to the Sokoto Caliphate.

What is special

The part that makes it specific.

01

The place changes

Bauchi's Durbar reflects the emirate's own nineteenth-century founding during the jihad era, when the territory was organized as one of the Fulani-led emirates loyal to the Sokoto Caliphate

02

The mystery stays covered

As in the other emirate cities, the Durbar functions as a renewal of the historic bond between the Emir and the emirate's title-holders and communities, staged with the same ceremonial cavalry format found across Kano, Katsina, Zaria, Ilorin, and Gombe, giving Bauchi's version its place within a well-documented, UNESCO-recognized regional tradition
