Durbar Festival Nigeria in Kano/Katsina/Zaria/Ilorin
The Durbar, known in Hausa as Hawan Sallah, is a grand equestrian procession held across northern Nigeria's Hausa-Fulani emirates, most famously in Kano and also in Katsina, Zazzau, and Ilorin, to mark Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha. Palace cavalry parade in richly decorated regalia before the Emir.
The Durbar, called Hawan Sallah in Hausa, is one of the most visually striking traditions of northern Nigeria, staged across the region's historic Hausa-Fulani emirates, most famously in Kano, and also in Katsina, Zazzau (Zaria), and further south in Ilorin.
