Eyo Festival in Lagos Island

The Eyo Festival, also called the Adamu Orisha Play, is a Yoruba masquerade procession unique to Lagos Island, performed by white-robed masquerades known as Eyo who wear wide-brimmed aga hats and carry a staff called opambata. Organized by the Idejo white-cap chiefs, it traditionally honors a deceased Oba or senior chief, or marks major civic occasions.

The Eyo Festival, formally known as the Adamu Orisha Play, is one of Lagos's oldest and most distinctive cultural traditions, rooted in the customs of the Yoruba communities that founded Lagos Island long before the city grew into Nigeria's commercial capital.
