Norwegian Festival of Literature in Lillehammer

The Norwegian Festival of Literature is the largest literary festival in the Nordic countries, held in Lillehammer every May or June since 1995. Growing out of earlier Sigrid Undset seminars, it now draws around thirty thousand visitors and four hundred writers and artists for a week of readings, talks and debate.

The Norwegian Festival of Literature began not as a fully formed festival but as a pair of academic seminars, held in 1993 and 1994 by the Nansen Academy to mark the legacy of Sigrid Undset, the Norwegian novelist who won the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1928.
