Films from the South Festival in Oslo
Films from the South Festival began in 1991 at the University of Oslo, growing out of the student Blindern Filmklubb's screening tradition. Now Oslo's largest film festival, it draws about 20,000 visitors annually each autumn to screen films from Africa, Asia and Latin America. Its main prize, the Silver Mirror, honors the best feature film, and since 2012 its Sørfond programme has helped finance productions from the global south.
Films from the South Festival did not begin as an institutional undertaking.
