Peer Gynt Festival in Vinstra/Gala

The Peer Gynt Festival is an annual celebration in Vinstra of Henrik Ibsen's play Peer Gynt, first held in 1928 to mark Ibsen's centenary and staged continuously in the region since 1967. Since 1989, its signature open-air drama has been performed at Galavatnet, drawing more than four hundred thousand visitors over its history.

Henrik Ibsen wrote Peer Gynt after traveling through Gudbrandsdalen in the summer of 1862, collecting the folk tales and legends that would become the backbone of his 1876 play about a self-serving dreamer whose journey mixes biting satire with fairy-tale fantasy.
