Omani National Day Celebrations

Omani National Day, celebrated every November 18th, marks the country's independence and is observed nationwide with military parades, camel and horse races, music festivals, maritime displays, and evening fireworks. Public buildings and streets are decorated in Oman's national colours of red, white, and green, and families gather for concerts, traditional Razha dance performances, and festive meals.

Oman's National Day commemorates the country's 1650 expulsion of Portuguese colonial forces, an event tied to the Al Ya'arubi dynasty's recapture of Muscat, though the modern holiday as celebrated today is also closely associated with the birthday and reign of the country's Sultan, giving November 18th a layered significance spanning several centuries of Omani history and the country's contemporary national identity.
