Urs Sachal Sarmast in Daraza Sharif
Daraza Sharif's three-day Urs of Sachal Sarmast begins each year on the 13th day of the Islamic month of Ramazan, honouring the multilingual Sindhi Sufi poet with a literary conference, Mehfil-e-Sama musical gatherings, a mushaira poetry sitting, and the Sachal Awards presented to notable Pakistani cultural and literary figures.
Sachal Sarmast, born around 1739 and dying in 1827, was an eighteenth and nineteenth century Sindhi Sufi poet, mystic, and philosopher from Daraza, in present-day Sindh, whose reputation rests substantially on the sheer linguistic range of his work.
