Bahauddin Zakariya Urs in Multan
Multan marks the death anniversary of the thirteenth-century Sufi scholar Bahauddin Zakariya Multani with a three-day Urs at his shrine each year, an event significant enough that local authorities declare a public holiday, drawing pilgrims for Quran recitation, qawwali, and food distribution at one of the city's most prominent centres of Suhrawardi Sufi tradition still in continuous use today.
Bahauddin Zakariya Multani was born in the mid-twelfth century and became one of the founding figures of the Suhrawardi Sufi order in South Asia, establishing a lineage of spiritual teaching in Multan that would influence the region's religious life for centuries.
