The story

Children Literature Festival Pakistan in Multi-city

The Children's Literature Festival (CLF) is a nationwide Pakistani initiative launched in November 2011 by Idara-e-Taleem-o-Aagahi (ITA) to promote reading, creativity and critical thinking among children. Held across all four provincial capitals, Islamabad and more than two dozen districts, it has reached over 1.4 million children and teachers, and has since been rebranded as the Pakistan Learning Festival (PLF).

In November 2011, educationist Baela Raza Jamil, working through Idara-e-Taleem-o-Aagahi (ITA), launched the Children's Literature Festival with a specific diagnosis in mind: Pakistan's children needed more experiential, multi-sensory platforms for reading, creativity and imagination than conventional schooling was providing.

What is special

The part that makes it specific.

01

The place changes

CLF's distinguishing feature is its scale and reach for a literary event aimed at children: rather than a single flagship city event, it has run as a multi-city, multi-district program spanning all four provincial capitals, Islamabad, and over 25 districts since its 2011 founding by educationist Baela Raza Jamil, co-founded with Ameena Saiyid of Oxford University Press

02

The mystery stays covered

Its explicit purpose was countering weak learning outcomes by giving children experiential, multi-sensory platforms for reading, creativity and imagination rather than conventional classroom instruction

03

The city starts moving

Targeting children aged three to eighteen alongside teachers and youth, it functions less as a literary festival for adult audiences and more as a mobile, nationwide learning intervention, a distinction reflected in its eventual rebranding to the broader Pakistan Learning Festival
