Holy Fire Saturday in East Jerusalem

Holy Fire Saturday is the Eastern Orthodox Christian ceremony held on Great Saturday, the day before Orthodox Easter, inside the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem's Old City. Led by the Greek Orthodox Patriarch of Jerusalem, the rite centers on a flame said to emerge inside the Edicule enclosing the tomb attributed to Jesus, which is then distributed to pilgrims and flown to other Orthodox countries.

Every year on Great Saturday, the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem's Old City becomes the setting for one of Christianity's oldest continuously observed rites: the Holy Fire.
