Penonome, capital of Cocle province, holds its four-day pre-Lenten carnival around a distinctive water carnival in the city center, where fountains, mobile pools and tanker trucks soak crowds by day and queens parade with comparsas and fireworks by night, drawing heavy day-trip traffic from Panama City along the Interamerican Highway.

Cocle province's capital, Penonome, sits on the Interamerican Highway roughly two hours west of Panama City, which makes it one of the more accessible carnival destinations for residents of the capital who do not want to make the longer trip out to the Azuero Peninsula towns.
