Semana Santa de Tañarandy in Tañarandy/San Ignacio
Every Good Friday, the small community of Tanarandy near San Ignacio, Misiones, draws thousands for a Holy Week observance built around candlelit living pictures, a Gothic-style retablo, and a procession honoring the Dolorosa, an event founded by artist Koki Ruiz that has become one of Paraguay's most recognized religious and cultural spectacles.
Tanarandy is not a town in its own right so much as a small rural community on the outskirts of San Ignacio, in Misiones department, and for most of the year it draws little outside attention.
