Festividad del Santo Rey Ara de Rosado in Tobati
A century-old religious and folk celebration in the Rosado neighborhood of Tobati, honoring the Holy King (Santo Rey) each January 4 through 6, blending Catholic novenas and processions with Afro-descendant and indigenous ritual elements, recently declared National Intangible Cultural Heritage of Paraguay by the culture ministry.
In the Compania Rosado neighborhood of Tobati, a town in Paraguay's Cordillera department famed nationally for its clay pottery and mask-making tradition, families have for more than a hundred years organized a festival each January honoring Santo Rey Ara, the Holy King.
