Fiesta de San Pedro Chimbote in Chimbote
Every June 29, coastal fishing towns across Peru, including the major port city of Chimbote, celebrate the feast of Saint Peter, patron saint of fishermen. The day centers on a maritime procession in which a statue of the saint is carried out on decorated boats to bless the fishing fleet, followed by music, food, and community gatherings along the waterfront.
Saint Peter, remembered in the Christian tradition as a fisherman called by Christ to become an apostle, has long been venerated as the patron saint of fishermen across the Catholic world, and Peru's extensive fishing coast adopted his June 29 feast day as one of its most consistently observed maritime traditions.
