Bienal de Fotografia de Lima in Lima
The Bienal de Fotografia de Lima is a photography exhibition held every two years in the Peruvian capital, first launched in the 1990s and continuing as one of the country's longest-running showcases for the medium. The biennial brings together Peruvian and international photographers across documentary, artistic, and experimental practice, exhibited across museums and galleries in Lima.
Photography biennials became a common format internationally during the twentieth century as cities sought recurring, large-scale platforms for the medium distinct from painting- and sculpture-focused art fairs, and Lima's version traces its origins to the 1990s, with early editions establishing the event as a serious platform for both Peruvian and international photographers.
