Parada ng Lechon in Balayan
Parada ng Lechon is Balayan, Batangas's June 24 celebration of Saint John the Baptist, where families parade elaborately costumed roast pigs through the streets in a thanksgiving custom that grew from a small district tradition into a two-week town fiesta. The tradition has been formally managed since 1959 by the Hermandad San Juan Bautista, a brotherhood organized specifically for the event.
In what was once a poor and depressed district in the western part of Balayan, Batangas, a modest thanksgiving custom took root sometime during the Spanish and American colonial periods.
