Dinagsa Festival in Cadiz City, Negros Occidental honors the Sto. Nino de Cadiz every January, begun in 1972 as the Cadiz City Ati-Atihan Festival and renamed Dinagsa in 2002. Its signature event, Lamhitanay sa Dalan, has crowds smearing each other in colorful paint, referencing a 1967 whale-stranding legend.

On May 5, 1967, whales reportedly became stranded along the shore of what is now Cadiz City, an event that residents interpreted at the time as a sign of divine blessing rather than a natural misfortune.
