Sinulog sa Kabankalan in Kabankalan
Sinulog sa Kabankalan is Kabankalan City's Santo Nino devotional street-dance festival, held the third week of January since 1976. Dancers paint themselves black and wear feathered tribal costumes in a tribu competition, following a legend of a child with a shining sword who frightened off Moro pirate raiders.
Kabankalan sits inland from Ilog, once the seat of government for what is now Negros Occidental, an area that local legend says came under repeated attack from Moro seaborne raiders during the Spanish colonial period.
