Cinemalaya Philippine Independent Film Festival in Manila/Pasay
Cinemalaya Philippine Independent Film Festival is a Manila-based showcase for Filipino independent cinema, founded in 2004 and first held in 2005 through a partnership between the Cultural Center of the Philippines, the Film Development Council, and university filmmakers. Its production grants have helped fuel what critics call the Pinoy Indie New Wave over the past two decades.
In 2004, a coalition of Philippine cultural and film institutions, the Cultural Center of the Philippines, the Film Development Council of the Philippines, the University of the Philippines Film Institute, and the Philippine Multi-Media Systems Inc., came together to found the Cinemalaya Foundation, with the explicit goal of creating a new pathway for independent Filipino filmmaking.
