Peñafrancia Festival in Naga
The Penafrancia Festival is a major Marian devotion held in Naga City, Camarines Sur, each September, centered on Our Lady of Penafrancia, and marked by one of the largest fluvial processions in Asia as the image is carried by barge along the Bicol River before thousands of devotees.
Devotion to Our Lady of Penafrancia in Naga City is generally traced to the early eighteenth century, when a local devotee is said to have built a chapel in honor of the Virgin following the fulfillment of a personal vow, and the image and its associated devotion grew over the following decades into one of the most significant Marian traditions in the Bicol region and in the Philippines more broadly.
