Gdansk Shakespeare Festival in Gdansk

The Gdansk Shakespeare Festival is an international theatre festival devoted to Shakespeare and Elizabethan-era drama, held every August since 1993 across venues in Gdansk, Sopot, and Gdynia, with Britain's then Prince of Wales as its original patron. Running for roughly a week each August, it draws touring theatre companies from across Europe into venues scattered throughout the historic Tricity area.

The Gdansk Shakespeare Festival began in 1993 as the Gdansk Shakespeare Days, an initiative of the Theatrum Gedanense Foundation founded by literary scholar Professor Jerzy Limon and cultural official Wladyslaw Zawistowski, taking its current name in 1997 during celebrations marking Gdansk's thousandth anniversary as a city.
