The Jewish Culture Festival in Krakow has run since 1988 in the historic Kazimierz district, making it one of the world's most significant celebrations of Jewish culture. When the Jewish Culture Festival in Krakow began in 1988, Poland was still under communist rule and Kazimierz, the historic Jewish quarter dating to the fourteenth century, had spent decades as a neglected, half-forgotten district following the forced removal of its Jewish residents into the Krakow ghetto and their subsequent murder in the Holocaust.
